Walt Schumann

Walt Schumann, a retired Naval aviator, taught student pilots at Naval Air Station Whiting Field for thirty years.  He holds a bachelor's degree from Emery Riddle University and a master's degree from the University of Arkansas.

Schumann is a graduate of the 1996 Leadership Santa Rosa Class and has been active in community service with Milton High School and Florida State Parks.  He actively serves in two organizations, the Blackwater Pyrates and Bagdad Waterfronts Florida Partnership.

Schumann is perhaps as comfortable navigating our area waterways as he is the airways.  He works with both the Blackwater Pyrates and Bagdad Waterfronts Florida Partnership in efforts to preserve and maintain the Blackwater River as a vital resource for Santa Rosa County.

The Blackwater Maritime Heritage Trail has historical and archaeological links to the Village of Bagdad, and presents new and expanding recreational opportunities for Santa Rosa County and the state of Florida.

Schumann has been instrumental using his skills in the development of the Blackwater Maritime Heritage Trail.  Along with Doug Lasater, Schumann worked closely with Florida's Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) introducing the maritime trail.
